Once again, the ridiculous kerfuffle about transgender people and public bathrooms has reared its ugly, ill-informed head. This time, Rodney Cavness, Port Neches -Groves ISD superintendent said the following in an interview with Kevin Steele of KBMT-12.

“I got news for President Barack Obama. He ain’t my President and he can’t tell me what to do. That letter (to be released to all public schools tomorrow) is going straight to the paper shredder. I have 5 daughters myself and I have 2,500 girls in my protection. Their moms and dads expect me to protect them. And that is what I am going to do. Now I don’t want them bullied… but there are accommodations that can be made short of this. He (President Obama) is destroying the very fiber of this country. He is not a leader. He is a failure.”

“He ain’t my president.” Ah, Rodney, if only that were the case and you lived somewhere far, far away where you and your small-minded ilk were free to mingle in ignorant bliss.

There are no cases of transgendered people sexually accosting people in a public bathroom, unlike, say, GOP politicians.

If a person presents as a boy, then being forced to go into a girl’s restroom would cause more issues that it would solve. In most cases, people are using stalls, so it’s not even really an issue of invasion of privacy.

This is just another case of fear mongering and misinformation. Surely, as a society we should be better than this.

Besides, what exactly are these conservatives doing in public restrooms that they are so scared of? Suddenly, I am a little afraid of sharing a bathroom with them.

  1. I’m a native SETXan. I now live in SATX. Reading the responses from my fellow SETXan’s has been disappointing to say the least. Also, as a long term reader of your work, it always bothered me a little bit that you use the dog to explain your cartoon. I always felt like it wasn’t needed and detracted from your work, but considering how uneducated and ignorant some SETXan’s clearly are, maybe you DO need to hit them over the head with your point. Keep on keeping on, and God bless you for standing up to these dark hearted bullies.
